Dr. Eric Lagasse’s work on ectopic livers is being used by ABCs “Grey’s Anatomy.” Dr. Lagasse’s lab has generated functional livers using lymph nodes, and the writers of the show wanted to use this science in an episode about a “surgical innovation contest.” In episode S14, E12 “Harder, better, faster, stronger,” the project, which generates mini-livers for patients with end-stage liver disease and is based on Dr. Lagasse’s work, wins the contest. Episode 13, which airs on March 1, 2018, will address the outcome.
