Dr. Mo Ebrahimkhani published an article in Cell Systems, entitled, “Gene Regulatory Network Analysis and Engineering Directs Development and Vascularization of Multilineage Human Liver Organoids.” This article illustrates that through genetic engineering, stem cells can be programmed to develop into mature liver tissue, extending the lives of sick animals with liver disease. PLRC members involved in this study are Dr. Samira Kiani, co-senior author and Dr. Silvia Liu, collaborator. The manuscript gained media attention, including the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and UPMC, and international attention through the Italian National paper, Corriere Della Sera.
